Peter Gleick vs Heartland Institute – Scorecard One Year Later. And the Winner Is?

with 22 comments

It is no contest. Dr. Peter Gleick continues to advance science and offer tremendous public service while Heartland Institute is busy shooting itself in the foot trying to misinform the public and disparage our experts.

Pfizer Censoring Face Book Comments Regarding Heartland Institute

with 12 comments

Update May 15: Pfizer censors my comments again!

Pfizer Censors Heartland Institute Comments

Now you see it…..

Now you don't

Now you don’t!

Pfizer funds Heartland Institute – an un-American hate group who thinks people like you and me who accept human-caused climate change are just like The Unabomber, Charles Manson, Fidel Castro, and Osama bin Laden. Pfizer also removes Face Book comments asking them to suspend their support of this un-American hate group. Of course, they shamelessly hide behind the “off-topic” argument for comment removal while not offering a Heartland topic where we can be “on topic”. Shame on you for supporting Heartland Institute and shame on you for being anti-free speech!

State Farm: Stop Sending My Money To Heartland Institute

with 2 comments

Update May 14: State Farm corporate headquarters called me at home today to let me know they received my letter and to assure me that they will no longer be funding Heartland Institute. Very impressed they called. Thank you, State Farm for doing the right thing.

Update 10 PM ET May 7: STATE FARM HAS DROPPED HEARTLAND INSTITUTE. Image below from SF Face Book page:

State Farm Drops Funding for Heartland Institute

This blog post contains a letter that was sent to State Farm Insurance along with key New York elected officials. I intend to end my 21 years as a State Farm customer if State Farm does not pull their funding from Heartland Institute. I do not wish my money to be sent to Heartland Institute – a group that recently compared climate scientists and those concerned about climate change to “murderers, tyrants, and madmen” such as Ted Kaczynski (Unabomber), Charles Manson, Fidel Castro, and Osama bin Laden. Although Heartland stated that they will remove the public billboards, their official statement offers no apologies. It is obvious that the billboards represent Heartland’s true feelings.

Heartland Institute: Indefensible un-American Behavior

with 18 comments

Scientific discovery has led to America being a world leader and most of the things one enjoys in life are the result of science. Attacking science is un-American and comparing scientists to Osama bin Laden is indefensible. The image below is an ad that Heartland Institute is displaying on billboards in Chicago, IL USA:

Tom Harris Teaches Heartland Institute Fake Science to Students

with 15 comments

A science watchdog has released a report slamming a course taught at Carleton University (Canada) over what they call “biased and inaccurate” claims concerning climate change.

The course “Climate Change: An Earth Sciences Perspective”, taught by Tom Harris for two years, is the subject of a 98-page report written by the Committee for the Advancement of Scientific Skepticism (CASS). The report constitutes a blow-by-blow response citing extensively from the scientific literature to rebut 142 erroneous and fully-quoted claims.

On auditing the course, CASS discovered that key messages for students contradict accepted scientific opinion. These messages include: denying that current climate change has an anthropogenic cause; dismissing the problems that carbon dioxide emissions cause because CO2 is plant food; denying the existence of the scientific consensus on the causes of climate change; and claiming that we should prepare instead for global cooling.

In this blog post I will just focus on one ridiculous notion that Harris and his good friends at Heartland Institute keep pushing: CO2 is plant food.

Do Not Take Your Eyes Off Lex Luthor (Heartland Institute)

with 26 comments

Just as scientists view the entire body of evidence to support a conclusion, I think we should all judge an individual by the entire body of his accomplishments and not by his one regrettable mistake. Who among us has not made mistakes? By focusing on Dr. Peter Gleick’s mistake, we are not only being unfair to this man but we are taking our eye off the issue that we should all be focused on: Heartland Institute is threatening the education and future of our children!

Is this not a red cherry tree?

Is this not a red cherry tree?

Read on to see why Peter should be congratulated for his academic achievement and tireless communication efforts to benefit society and why Heartland Institute’s actions should make you angry.

Heartland Institute: Hey Kids, Have a Smoke and Denial

with 21 comments

As has been widely reported in mainstream media and the blogosphere, a person calling himself “Heartland Insider” leaked internal documents that apparently show that Heartland Institute, a libertarian think tank, has engaged in an anti-climate science campaign targeted at the adult general public but also toward undermining the science education being provided to our K-12 school children.  Although many of us have known for a long time what Heartland has been up to, these documents are still quite a smoking gun.

This blog post will present you with a way to voice your concern about Denialgate.

Heartland Institute’s Non-Experts: “You Experts Are All Wrong!”

with 27 comments

Excerpts from the press release about Heartland Institute’s latest laugh-fest:

“The Heartland Institute will host its sixth International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-6) on June 30 and July 1 in Washington, DC. Heartland will be joined in Washington by dozens of think tank cosponsors and hundreds of scientists in an effort to restore the scientific method to its rightful place in the debate over the causes, consequences, and implications of climate change.”

“The theme of the conference, Restoring the Scientific Method, acknowledges the fact that claims of scientific certainty and predictions of climate catastrophes are based on post-normal science, which substitutes claims of consensus for the scientific method. This choice has had terrible consequences for science and society.”

“The scientists speaking at this conference, and the hundreds more who are expected to attend, are committed to restoring the scientific method. This means abandoning the failed hypothesis of man-made climate change, and using real science and sound economics to improve our understanding of the planet’s ever-changing climate.”

Medusa Institute

with 6 comments

Dr. Judith Curry during a recent radio interview and subsequently in one of her blog posts claimed that Heartland is a small player. She also believes that Anthony Watts and Steve McIntyre have more influence over the climate discussion than Heartland and its personnel. Look at the next picture and decide who you think has more influence over the really important people – policy makers and business leaders. (Hint: Heartland’s President agrees with me. See Dr. Curry’s post to read his chest-puffing message to her.)

Heartland Institute Got Caught With Their Pants Down

Heartland Institute Got Caught With Their Pants Down

As blogged by me and many, many others, Heartland Institute got caught with their pants down when internal documents revealed what we have known for a long time: they are undermining the education of our children.

Read on for a surprising new development….
